Apsley Street Surgery is a training practice and we often have Medical Students and FY2 (Foundation Year 2) doctors on placement within the surgery.
Medical Students:
Medical students may sit in with GPs and nurses during appointments. You may be informed that a medical student will be present during your appointment and asked if you are comfortable with that. If you would prefer not to have a medical student at your appointment, please let the receptionist know and this will be arranged.
Medical students also do student led consultations where a medical student will conduct the initial consultation and examination. A GP will then join the consultation, review the information and decide on any diagnosis/treatment. You will always be informed when being offered a student led appointment.
FY2 (Foundation Year 2) Doctors:
FY2 doctors are doctors on their second year of postgraduate training who will join the surgery on a 4 month placement. They are qualified medical practitioners and are fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC). FY2 doctors will have their own surgeries where they see patients and will be supervised by a GP Educational Supervisor. You will be informed when being offered an appointment with an FY2 doctor.
